The Domain: Your Unique URL
A domain, or URL, is the address for your website. For example, www.yourwebsite.com. Yes, this costs money too. If you’re new to Squarespace, you can select a domain for free for a year! Then after they first year you’d pay to keep your custom URL. A yearly fee for a domain is typically somewhere around $20. This can fluctuate depending on if you have your heart set on a highly sough after domain name that someone is holding and up-charging for (which can be a huge bummer). But for the most part, if you select an available URL, you’re looking at around $20 per year.
Hosting Plans: Your Squarespace Subscription
Now you’ve got your template and 6 month free Squarespace trial to perfect your new website. But in order to launch and host your website, you’ve gotta pay for a Squarespace subscription. Let’s talk about the different Squarespace plans:
Personal Plan: $16 per month (billed annually) or $23 per month (billed monthly)
This is the “keep it simple” plan. Perfect if you just need a gorgeous website to show off your work or ideas. You get unlimited bandwidth, storage, SSL security, and basic metrics. But if you’re dreaming of an online store, you’ll need to upgrade.
Business Plan: $23 per month (billed annually) or $33 per month (billed monthly)
Think of this as the next step up. Along with everything in the Personal Plan, you’ll get advanced analytics, a snazzy professional email from Google, and the ability to sell products online (though there’s a 3% transaction fee).
Basic Commerce Plan: $27 per month (billed annually) or $36 per month (billed monthly)
Ready to make some serious sales? This plan is for you. No transaction fees, plus customer accounts, top-notch merchandising tools, and the ability to sell directly on Instagram.
Advanced Commerce Plan: $49 per month (billed annually) or $65 per month (billed monthly)
The big kahuna of e-commerce plans. You get everything in the Basic Commerce Plan, plus extras like advanced shipping options, discount management, and that all-important abandoned cart recovery.
Squarespace Email Marketing: Boost Your Reach
Squarespace isn’t just about looking good—it’s about keeping connected with your audience too. With their integrated email marketing, you can keep your current and potential clients in the loop. Here’s what it’ll cost to add email marketing to your Squarespace setup:
Starter Plan: $6 per month (billed annually) or $8 per month (billed monthly)
Just getting started? This plan gives you up to 3 campaigns and 500 emails a month—a great way to dip your toes in the email marketing pool.
Core Plan: $12 per month (billed annually) or $16 per month (billed monthly)
Growing your list? The Core Plan offers up to 5 campaigns and 5,000 emails a month, perfect for when you’ve got more to say and more people to say it to.
Pro Plan: $28per month (billed annually) or $39 per month (billed monthly)
Ready to go big? With unlimited campaigns and up to 50,000 emails a month, the Pro Plan is great for when your audience is really starting to grow.
Max Plan: $55 per month (billed annually) or $78 per month (billed monthly)
Running a full-blown email empire? The Max Plan lets you send up to 250,000 emails a month—because sometimes, more is more.
Other Email Marketing Platforms
I’d also note that there are many other email marketing platforms that you can use with Squarespace, like Mailchimp, Flodesk, ConvertKit (soon to be Kit), etc. All of these are going to have a monthly fee associated with them. Anywhere from roughly $9 per month for small email lists to $500+ per month for really large email lists. Some even have free trials with minimal functionality so you can try it out.
Squarespace Scheduling: Simplify Your Booking Process
If your business involves appointments, meetings, or consultations, you’ll love Squarespace Scheduling. It’s like having your very own personal assistant, and it integrates seamlessly with your site. Here’s what it’ll set you back:
Emerging Plan: $16 per month (billed annually) or $20 per month (billed monthly)
Perfect for one-person shows or small businesses. You get 1 calendar, unlimited appointments, and easy integration with Google Calendar and iCal.
Growing Plan: $27 per month (billed annually) or $34 per month (billed monthly)
If your scheduling needs are getting a little more complex, this plan’s got you covered. It includes everything in the Emerging Plan, plus up to 6 calendars, email and text reminders, and payment processing via Stripe or PayPal.
Powerhouse Plan: $49 per month (billed annually) or $61 per month (billed monthly)
This one’s for the big leagues—perfect for teams or multiple locations. You get everything in the Growing Plan, plus unlimited calendars, advanced reporting, and the ability to offer memberships and packages.
This offering is completely optional. If your creative business doesn’t book appointments, you can skip right over all that.
